Dense tower blocks that reach to the sky possessing a life-force of deafening silence. This is the dynamic power containing the dharma of existence: the fleeting transience of life; order from chaos.

Cherilene Chan has translated the zen truths of traditional brush & ink paintings to contemporary cityscapes in print. She became fascinated by this unworldly energy whilst living and travelling in Tokyo, Hong Kong, Bangkok and other Great Asian Cities over the last five years.

The City as a live entity has been explored in Japanese Anime, and films such as Fritz Lang’s Metropolis (1927) and Wong Kar-Wai’s 2046 (2004). This vital essence has also moved other artists - from the Italian Futurists to contemporary German photographer, Andreas Gursky.

Thousands of souls bound together resonating within concrete and steel – in our daily busy lives, we unknowingly partake in the creation of a city that is a mountain practising emptiness.
